Trouble Training Your Dog? Follow These Tips

Many people fall in love with puppies and dogs. If you have one already or are thinking about getting one, congratulations! When your dog is trained and disciplined, you are more likely to enjoy a beautiful, lifelong relationship. Whether at home or away, you will begin to trust your dog and it will know what you expect. You and your pet can have a fantastic friendship if you apply the following tips.

There are many ways to make crate training more comfortable and successful for your new puppy or dog. If your puppy doesn't like being in his crate, put a dog treat or chew bone in it and close the door to keep him out. Your dog will want the bone and will be unable to resist entering the crate. When your dog goes inside, give him plenty of praise, and let him know he is doing a good job.

Any dog owner should consider their pet's diet when looking to correct behavioral problems. As with humans, dogs are what they eat. If their diet is not nutritionally sound, internal and external problems can develop. Make sure your dog is eating his best, and improved behavior will often follow.

Enforce all of the commands you issue to your dog. Do no issue a command on a whim. Only give a command to your dog if you truly mean it. This can lead to having to repeat your commands. A well-trained dog should only need to be told once to do something.

As you begin the dog training process, make sure to reward your pet when they perform desirable behaviors. Although discipline is necessary at times, the more you are able to praise your dog, the better your relationship will be. A good relationship means that your animal will want to follow your directions and the training process will be much easier.

When giving commands to your dog, never come down to their level. Maintaining eye contact and a fully erect, dominant stance imparts control to the dog. Your dog will be receptive to commands given from this posture much easier than a crouching owner who is seen as an equal or playmate.

Training your puppy should start as early as 6 weeks old. The earlier you can start training your new pup, the better the results will be. Studies have found that dogs are the most receptive to training from 6 to 14 weeks old so use that time wisely.

Food and treats can be your ally in training your dog to seek out his crate. Allow your dog to find strategically placed bits of food and a few treats every once in awhile when he returns to his crate. He will make it a habit of checking the crate out more regularly just in case something else has miraculously appeared there.

Hopefully, you found a few tips that will go a long way towards improving your dog-owner relationship. Use the tips that suit your situation best. No doubt, you'll be tied up emotionally to a faithful and cute dog. Success can only be found through consistent training. Keep your pet well trained. Enjoy your loveable, cute companion!
